Ken Downie

Ken Downie is a freelance writer and photographer and has worked as a photojournalist for Metro, North & South and the New Zealand Listener. As a photographer, Ken specialises in portraiture, architecture, food, travel, industrial and documentary photography. As a writer, his interests are in stories about people, architecture, travel and lifestyle.
Ken is a graduate of the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design. His photographic work has featured in the public collections of the National Library and Te Papa; he’s also had exhibitions in galleries throughout the country, and his photographs and stories have been published in New Zealand and overseas.
In 2022 Ken published Kiwi Bikers: 85 New Zealanders and their motorbikes with Massey University Press to rave reviews (‘264 pages of pure pleasure’ — Andy McGechan, bikesportnz.com). The book, written and photographed by Ken, made the New Zealand non-fiction top ten best-seller list.
